
Marriage/Nikkah
“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.”

The SW Masjid has a dedicated marriage committee to help you have a memorable wedding day. Please follow the procedures below before contacting us:
- A marriage license must be obtained prior to the date of the Nikkah ceremony. This document must be provided at the ceremony. For more information on how to obtain a license, visit: Alberta Marriage License.
- The bride must be represented by her guardian (Wali), who should be a male relative such as a father, brother, son, grandfather, or paternal uncle. (Note: Maternal uncles, women, and friends cannot serve as a wali.)
- Two adult male Muslim witnesses (baligh) must be present at the ceremony.
- The dowry (mahr) must be discussed and agreed upon by both parties prior to the ceremony.
